Planting Date – Dixie Dozen is designed for fall planting, usually in September, with timing adjusted based on location—the further south you are, the later the planting should occur. Planting too early can reduce the blend’s palatability by hunting season, so precise timing is crucial to ensure maximum deer attraction when it matters most.

Site Prep – Begin by applying herbicide to eliminate existing vegetation on your plot. When ready to plant, create a suitable seedbed by disking or tilling the soil to remove large clumps. The soil doesn’t need to be pulverized into a fine powder, but it should be sufficiently broken up to be mostly free of sizable dirt clods.

Planting – Because Dixie Dozen contains seeds of varying sizes, it is generally broadcasted. After spreading the seed over the prepared soil, cover it by dragging the plot or using a culti-packer to press the seed into the ground, aiming for a soil coverage of ½ to 1 inch. Avoid planting the seed deeper than this. Seeds left partially exposed can still germinate if they receive sufficient moisture. Before loading your seeder, thoroughly mix the bag’s contents to ensure even distribution of brassica seeds. Planting too densely will reduce growth and maturity, so it’s preferable to sow the seed slightly thin rather than too thick.

Herbicide – Complete all weed control measures before planting, as no herbicide is effective on this mix once it has germinated. When planted properly and at the appropriate time, with thorough weed management beforehand, this product will establish well and naturally suppress weed growth.

Note – Always conduct a soil test and apply fertilizer based on the results.
